Our Team

NAC is a small firm by design. Every engagement is handled by experienced professionals who take the work seriously — not passed off to junior staff or managed from a distance. Our team combines architectural expertise, construction field experience, and due diligence depth that takes years to develop, and every report that leaves the office has been reviewed at the principal level.

We are based in Grand Rapids, Michigan and work on transactions nationwide. We love buildings — all of them — and it shows in how we approach every project we take on.

Nate Gillette, AIA, LEED-AP, REALTOR
Nate Gillette, AIA, LEED-AP, REALTORPresident
Nate founded Natura Architectural Consulting in 2013 with a straightforward premise: that Architect-led due diligence produces better outcomes for the lenders, syndicators, and developers who depend on it. Twelve years later, NAC has grown into a nationally active due diligence firm, and Nate remains the senior reviewer on every property condition assessment, capital needs assessment, construction loan monitoring engagement, and architectural document and cost review that leaves the office.

Before starting NAC, Nate spent his career as a practicing architect in real estate development and design-build — work that gave him an unusually practical understanding of how buildings are put together, what goes wrong with them, and what it actually costs to fix it. That background is what makes architect-led due diligence different from what most firms offer, and it’s the foundation everything at NAC is built on.

Nate is a licensed architect in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, and Florida, and holds LEED Accredited Professional credentials with specialty in Operations and Maintenance — a designation that remains directly relevant in the affordable housing and LIHTC world, where green building requirements and QAP point structures increasingly shape project scope and cost. He is also a Certified Energy Manager and a Federally Certified Historic Preservation Architect with a particular interest in adaptive reuse — turning historic structures into high-performance buildings without compromising their character.

Within the industry, Nate has been an active contributor to the standards that govern the work. He served on the ASTM workgroup that developed E2797-11, the Standard for Building Energy Performance Analysis Disclosure in Real Estate Transactions, and currently serves on the ASTM E2018 Property Condition Assessment reauthorization committee — the standard that defines how PCAs are conducted nationwide. He is a Past-President of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and a contributing author and editorial advisory board member for Retrofit Magazine, where his work has focused on the intersection of historic preservation and high-performance building.

When he’s not working — which, by his own admission, isn’t often — Nate is a serious collector of Detroit Tigers baseball memorabilia. He has a signed baseball from every member of the 1984 World Series championship team and is closing in on the 1968 team. Six to go.

Tammy Gillette
Tammy GilletteVice President
Tammy has been with Natura Architectural Consulting since the beginning — and in many ways, she is the reason the company runs as well as it does. As Vice President, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the firm while simultaneously leading NAC’s construction inspection practice, a combination that requires equal parts organizational precision and field expertise. At NAC, she brings both.

On the construction side, Tammy manages and performs site visits, writes inspection reports, and serves as senior reviewer for all construction loan monitoring engagements. It is detailed, demanding work that requires a sharp eye, sound judgment, and a thorough understanding of how buildings go together — knowledge Tammy has built through more than a decade of hands-on field experience.

Behind the scenes, Tammy keeps every part of the operation moving. Deadlines are met, clients are taken care of, and nothing falls through the cracks — because Tammy simply doesn’t allow it. Anyone who has worked with NAC for any length of time understands quickly that she is the heartbeat of this company.

When she’s not in the office or out in the field, Tammy is mom to three grown boys and an enthusiastic advocate for Michigan’s outdoors and traveling the world. Most summer weekends you’ll find her camping somewhere in the state — recharging before the next week of keeping everything on track.

Ryan Garone
Ryan GaroneVP of Development for Datum Point Real Estate Development.
Ryan brings a strong architectural foundation to NAC’s due diligence practice. A graduate of Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan — the same program that produced NAC’s founder — Ryan has spent the past five years developing deep expertise in property condition assessments across commercial and multifamily property types. His architectural education gives him a trained eye for how buildings are designed and constructed, which translates directly into more thorough, more accurate assessments for NAC’s clients.

Ryan is also a partner in Datum Point Real Estate Development, NAC’s sister company, where he contributes to real estate development projects alongside his work at NAC.

When he’s not in the field or at his desk, Ryan is kept plenty busy as the dad of two school-age kids who have a talent for pointing him in multiple directions simultaneously.

Casey Gerken
Casey GerkenSenior Architectural Consultant
Casey has been part of the Natura Architectural Consulting team for eleven years, making him one of NAC’s longest-tenured and most experienced staff members. Working alongside NAC’s Vice President on the construction inspection side of the practice, Casey performs site visits, conducts property condition assessments and capital needs assessments, and plays a key role in NAC’s construction loan monitoring engagements. He is known for the relationships he builds with lenders, developers, and contractors — the kind of working rapport that makes complex projects run more smoothly for everyone involved.

Before joining NAC, Casey brought a diverse commercial construction background to the table. He worked as a designer and fabricator in the commercial sign industry and as a project manager and estimator in the commercial door and hardware industry, managing accounts for multiple national retail chains and collaborating with contractors across local, regional, and national projects. That hands-on commercial construction experience — combined with an academic background in architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from Kendall College of Art and Design — gives Casey a practical, well-rounded perspective that shows up in every assessment he performs.

When he’s not in the field, Casey is a devoted husband and father of two. He plays as much golf as the Michigan weather will allow, which is never quite enough.

Mike Wells
Mike WellsArchitectural Consultant
Mike has been with Natura Architectural Consulting for five years, bringing a background that proves there’s more than one path to becoming a skilled building inspector. Armed with a degree in sports broadcasting and years of experience in the building materials industry, Mike arrived at NAC with a practical, ground-level understanding of commercial construction that serves him well in the field every single day.

At NAC, Mike focuses primarily on construction inspection work — performing site visits, monitoring project progress, and coordinating repair verifications for clients across the country. He also contributes to property condition assessments, making him a versatile member of the team on both the construction monitoring and due diligence sides of the practice.

Mike is married to Ashley Wells, NAC’s Office Administrator, which makes him both a colleague and a brother-in-law to NAC’s founder — a distinction that comes with absolutely no additional pressure whatsoever. When he’s not in the field, Mike can usually be found on the golf course, at the bowling alley, or keeping up with his daughter Kayley, who by all accounts is the most demanding of the three.

Beth Zimmer
Beth ZimmerArchitectural Consultant
Beth joined Natura Architectural Consulting two years ago and has quickly become an integral part of NAC’s architectural due diligence practice. Working closely with NAC’s founder, Beth focuses primarily on Architectural Document and Cost Reviews — extracting and analyzing data from architectural plans, reviewing contracts, reading surveys, and helping ensure that every detail of a project’s documentation holds up to scrutiny. It is precise, detail-oriented work, and Beth is exceptionally good at it.

Before joining NAC, Beth spent her career in the painting and coatings industry, where she developed a practical understanding of commercial construction materials and processes that translates directly into her due diligence work. She has supplemented that hands-on background with coursework in interior design, giving her a well-rounded perspective on how buildings are documented, finished, and evaluated.

Outside of the office, Beth is a devoted mom of three and deeply involved in her children’s school marching band — which, if you’ve ever been to a marching band competition, you know is essentially a part-time job in itself. She is also the unofficial baker of the NAC office, responsible for a steady supply of treats that have made her either very popular or very dangerous depending on how seriously you take your diet.

Isaac SimonArchitectural Consultant
Isaac joined Natura Architectural Consulting less than a year ago and has already taken on a central coordinating role in NAC’s property condition assessment practice. He manages the full workflow of NAC’s PCA engagements — scheduling, client communication, report coordination, and everything in between — while also contributing to the construction inspection side of the practice. For a firm that runs a high volume of assessments across the country, that kind of organizational precision matters enormously, and Isaac brings it naturally.

His background is anything but conventional for the building assessment world. Isaac holds a Master of Science in Communication and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Psychology, both from Grand Valley State University, where he also served as a Visiting Professor and Director of the Speech Lab. That academic foundation — built around research, analysis, communication, and understanding how people process information — turns out to be remarkably well suited to the work of coordinating complex due diligence engagements and keeping clients informed and on track.

When he’s not managing NAC’s PCA pipeline, Isaac is a devoted husband and an unapologetic Marvel enthusiast who has seen nearly every film in the franchise. He takes that last credential very seriously.

Jim AdkisonSenior Architectural Consultant
Ashley Wells
Ashley WellsOffice Administrator
Ashley joined Natura Architectural Consulting three months ago and has already made herself indispensable. Working closely with NAC’s Vice President, Ashley keeps the administrative side of the practice running smoothly — preparing proposals, supporting the consulting team, and handling the organizational work that keeps a busy nationwide due diligence firm on track. She is the kind of person who makes everyone around her more effective, and that is exactly what a firm like NAC needs.

Before joining NAC, Ashley spent her career as a Medical Administrative Assistant — an industry that demands precision, attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex information under deadline pressure. Those instincts transfer directly to the due diligence world, and NAC’s clients benefit from them every time a proposal lands in their inbox on time and without errors.

Ashley is married to Mike Wells, one of NAC’s Architectural Consultants and resident golf enthusiast, and is the sister of NAC’s founder — which makes her no stranger to the firm’s culture and leaves her with absolutely no excuses for not knowing how things are supposed to work around here. Together she and Mike are the proud parents of Kayley, who keeps them both appropriately busy. Outside of the office, Ashley recharges by spending time with friends and working on craft projects, which suggests a level of patience and creativity that explains a lot about how she handles a full inbox.
